Branding for Foodies - Logo vs. Identity vs. Brand
BRANDING
I know it is such a huge notion, but in reality it is relatively simple.
Well at least defining it is, the work you have to do on it is something that you build on for years and years!
So here are some of the most important Brand terms explained:
Logo - is but a small part of a Brand, a picture of it (selfie :=). It should represent your brand really nicely but also it is not the most essential part - a part you can do without, but mostly shouldn’t. Always ask yourself are you going to be the sole employer and also is this the only thing you do or is it in your plan to have multiple things inside one big idea. Logo can be versatile but always remember it is the smallest part of your Brand and Identity!
Visual Identity - are all the visual elements that are inside your brand. They are a continuation of the logo but can grow so far from it. It includes stationary materials, ads, marketing materials and campaigns, social media and packaging...
Examples of visual identity applied on different packaging designs
- the main element is the hexagon that connects the identity to the main produce - HONEY
Branding - is all that makes a brand - your logo, communication style, type of photos, your story, stories of your products - it is the whole being / organism that is your visual identity, you and your products.
Style - think of it as you would a fashion style of your wardrobe, you have a certain style and should involve everything inside your brand (colors, photos, communication, vibe.. )
Design - it should be the tool you use to represent all of the above… And I mean what I say it should only be a tool not something that drags you down, or adds more to your workload.
It is important to start building your Brand only after you have defined your audience and your ideal client, because then you will know all about them and how to best attract them.
Building a Brand is not something you do overnight it is something that you work on constantly, and over time
- but setting the foundation and starting to think about it and all that it brings is something that you should be working on from the get go!
Think of it like working on a new recipe - you first set the foundation and then you tweak it and play with it over the time...
